ChatGPT's Scheduled Tasks feature — available even on free accounts as of late 2026 — can turn a one-time OneUp prompt into a recurring habit that runs without you opening the app. Here's how to set it up.
How Scheduled Tasks differs from a regular prompt
A normal ChatGPT conversation only does something when you're actively chatting. A Scheduled Task runs on its own, on whatever recurring basis you set — hourly (paid plans), daily, or at specific times — delivering results as a new chat, with an optional notification or email.
Setting up the connection first
- Generate your OneUp API key (gear icon → API and MCP).
- In ChatGPT, create a custom plugin under Plugins, using OneUp's MCP connector URL from the API docs.
- Authorize with your API key, and set the plugin's permissions to Allow all actions so scheduled runs aren't interrupted waiting for manual approval.
Setting up the recurring task
- From ChatGPT's Scheduled page in the sidebar (or by asking ChatGPT directly to schedule something), describe the recurring task — for example: "Every day at 8am, check my OneUp analytics for yesterday's top-performing post and draft a follow-up post building on that theme, scheduled for 2pm today."
- Set the frequency and confirm.
What free vs. paid accounts get
Free ChatGPT accounts can run up to 3 active scheduled tasks, with recurring tasks capped at once per day. Paid plans (Plus, Pro, Team, Enterprise) get more active tasks and more frequent scheduling, up to once per hour.
A realistic use for the daily cap
Even at once-per-day on a free account, this covers a genuinely useful workflow: one scheduled task each morning that reviews yesterday's performance via OneUp's analytics and drafts today's content accordingly — closing the loop between what worked and what gets posted next, without manual review each day.
Worth testing before relying on it
Run the task manually a few times first (or let it execute for a week) before treating it as fully hands-off, so you can catch any drift in tone, timing, or account targeting before it becomes a pattern.
