# Migrating from One Platform to Another: A Step-by-Step Content Transfer Guide

Whether you're switching platforms entirely, expanding to a new one, or just consolidating your presence, the underlying problem is the same: you have content somewhere, and you need it somewhere else, without spending weeks manually re-uploading it. Here's the full process.

## Step 1: Decide what's actually moving

Not every migration needs to bring over your entire history. Before you touch any tools, decide:

- **Full history or curated selection?** — Some platforms benefit from volume (a busy-looking grid), others benefit more from a smaller set of your strongest content.
- **Which content types?** — Video, images, and text-only posts don't always translate cleanly across platforms; know what you're bringing over before you start.
- **What's the destination's format?** — A platform built around short video (TikTok, Shorts, Reels) needs different source material than a text-heavy one (X, Threads, Bluesky).

## Step 2: Connect your source and destination accounts

In OneUp, head to the **Accounts** page and connect both the platform you're migrating _from_ and the platform you're migrating _to_. Both need to be properly authenticated before a workflow can move content between them.

## Step 3: Set up the crossposting workflow

1. From the dropdown next to **Create a post**, select **Crossposting**.
2. Click **Add Workflow**.
3. Set your **source account** — the platform your existing content lives on.
4. Set your **destination account(s)** — where you want that content to go. You can send it to more than one destination in the same workflow.
5. Choose your **content type filters**, if you only want certain formats included.

## Step 4: Set your pacing

This step matters more than it seems. Publishing years of content in a single burst looks unnatural — both to the platform's systems and to anyone visiting your profile mid-migration. Space your content out over days or weeks instead of dumping it all at once.

## Step 5: Launch and monitor

Start the workflow, and check in on it periodically rather than assuming it's running perfectly unattended. Confirm posts are landing correctly on the new platform, especially early on, so you can catch formatting issues before they affect your whole backlog.

## Step 6: Clean up before you're done

Once the migration workflow finishes, do a pass over the new account:

- Remove or edit any captions referencing the old platform specifically
- Fix any posts that didn't format correctly
- Set up a separate, ongoing crossposting workflow if you also want future content to sync automatically — migration and ongoing sync are two different workflows
